Borescope inspection on the waterside is an important element of HRSG condition assessment and problems are commonly identified. Our online inspections identify problems that are not easily detected when the plant is offline. They also identify critical issues early for better repair planning. Online inspections include a thermal imaging survey with a FLIR camera. This allows quick identification of casing hotspots and gas leaks, as well as being able to evaluate the condition of expansion joints and penetration seals. Operational checks during the inspection include duct burner flame stability, steam drum level consistency, desuperheaters, pipe support load indicators and condensate preheating. In addition, inspectors pay close attention for unusual noises and vibration may hint at gas-side problems. No shutdown is needed and as there is no use of confined spaces, one HRST inspector alone can cover an entire plant.

HRST can inspect the higher levels of firing ducts, catalysts, tube faces, and several other hard to reach areas with the help of a drone. Drone inspections offer a cost-effective alternative to scaffolding and allow for frequent upper elevation condition assessments. Results can eliminate uncertainty and be used for informed decision-making and future budgeting.

In order to draw accurate conclusions about pressure part wear rates due to FAC and form recommended actions, it is important that the components being analyzed are properly measured in the same locations over time. The high priority locations have already been identified by an HRST FAC Risk Assessment. Using this document as a starting point, HRST supplies the client with site-specific Measurement Record Entry Data Sheets (MREDS). Measurements are compared to OEM drawings and any previous testing to determine wear rates and to form predictions of future wall conditions.

We perform inspections before the commercial operation begins (either pre- or post-fire) and during the warranty period following the start of commercial operation. These inspections have resulted in some non-conformance reports and warranty claims to prevent what otherwise would have become future problems and the responsibility of the owner.

A remote inspection is helpful for certain international clients who seek our guidance but may be reluctant to bear the travel costs, or in locations where our inspectors do not travel due to security concerns.
